The idyllic bay of Brna is located on the southern side of the island of Korčula, nestled in a sunny bay surrounded by lush pine forests, about 5 km from Smokvica. This deep and sheltered bay a safe harbor for boats of all types, making it a favorite among the yachting community. To the west lies the Mali Zaglav peninsula, which separates Brna from Istruga Bay, while the southeast side features several hidden bays with pebble beaches and clear blue sea.

Founded in the 19th century as an export port for Smokvica wines, Brna has since become a popular holiday destination. It offers a unique blend of beautiful surroundings and enjoyable sea and land activities, complemented by a variety of restaurants and local events during the summer. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long, warm summers and short, mild winters. The west wind Maestral wind brings a refreshing breeze on hot summer days. The bay is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, such as pine forests, olive groves, citrus and fig trees as well as vineyards.

Secluded bays and neighbouring islets

The neigbouring bay of Istruga at it’s deepest is 6 meters and the shallow half of the bay is covered with beds of healthy prehistoric ‘Liman’ mud. A walk along the hiking path around the bay of Istruga will take you to one of the secluded pebble stone beaches nearby. You can also explore the neighbouring islets by renting a motor boat or go for a hike around the bay all the way to the highest lookout point of Zaglav. The panoramic views of the southern coast of Korcula will be worth the effort!

Summer festivities and celebrations

Each year during the summer months Brna and Smokvica host numerous daytime and evening events. This includes fisherman nights where you can enjoy delicious fresh fish straight off the grill, Klapa concerts, folk dances and performances of the Kumpanija sword dance. At the end of July a wine festival called Pošip Days takes place in Smokvica & Čara. It is a fantastic opportunity to visit wineries and meet the makers. Every evening the vintners open their cellars for tasting.

 

On the 15th of August Brna celebrates its main festivity with concerts, local food and various tournaments, including some traditional ones such as roap pulling across two piers. Dont miss the chance to try some delicious local sweets!
