Around Brna and Smokvica you will find many cycling routes that will take you through picturesque countryside, pine forests, olive groves and vineyards to views, caves and beautiful bays. For those that enjoy these activates, we suggest coming in the spring and autumn when the tourist crowd are less and the weather is beautiful.

BIKE ROUTE ONE

The Trail of Posip

For the most part, this trail passes alongside the vineyards of the autochthonous grape variety Posip, which is used in the making of a first-class white wine that Smokvica has been famous for for centuries. A 17th century summer house of famous Croatian poet Petar Kanavelid (1637-1719) is located in the field of Prapratna. Next to the house you will find St. Ann’s Church dating from the 17th century. In the area of Dracevice zou can visit the Romanesque and Gothic church of St. Andrew, which was mentioned as far back as the 14th century.

BIKE ROUTE TWO

Blue Haven

This trail crosses the fields of olives, vineyards and for the most part a very challenging macadam path that leads to the southwest side of the island and the bay of Brna. You will follow the coastal line and will be able to admire the south side of the island with the islands of Lastovo and Mljet in front of you. The route then passes close to the village of Smokvica and its vineyards.

BIKE ROUTE THREE

Prizba

The trail leads us across the inner old road passing through the valley. We pass alongside the fields of olives, which like a dark green wreath surround the fields and plains most beautifully adorned with vineyards. We continue our trail on the southern side of the island where you can stop in the bay of Istruga, which is famous for medicinal mud but also for a cave which you can reach following a beautiful trail.

BIKE ROUTE FOUR

Roman Era

This is a challenging trail for adrenaline and history lovers. The routes starts in Smokvica and continues towards Čara. It then climbs the road above the bay and beach of Pupnatska Luka all the way to Pupnat, the smallest and one of the oldest settlements on the island. Crossing over to the northern coastal part of the island along the steep descent on a winding road to the bay and village of Kneže, the route continues along the coast to the village of Račišće, where it follows the gravel road next to beaches of Vaja and Samograd all the way to Babina bay. From there, it takes an asphalt road passing by picturesque and peaceful bays of Rasoha and Blaca and continues to Prigradica. The route will take you along the road from the promenade towards Blato, a village in the hinterland of the island that features a vast field and the famous dry stone wall terraces. From there, it continues to Smokvica. Just before arriving to Smokvica, at the local cemetery, there is the oldest church of this area, St. Cyprian’s Church dating from 1329.
